Cyber security in the Czech Republic – is DeepSeek a serious threat?

Speaker: Mgr. Michaela Holíková

The Privacy Rules Espresso podcast recently discussed key issues related to cybersecurity in the Czech Republic. The guest was Michaela Holíková, Associate at ROWAN LEGAL, who provided details of the current warning issued by the National Cybersecurity and Information Security Authority (NÚKIB). The authority has recently focused on the products and services of DeepSeek, a Chinese technology provider. These products and services may pose security threats.

DeepSeek Alert: Strengthening AI Contracts

The NÚKIB warning is legally binding for entities covered by the Czech Cybersecurity Act. Michaela Holíková explained that organisations must conduct a risk analysis to determine if they use DeepSeek’s technology. This analysis helps identify what threats the technology may pose. Based on this analysis, they should take measures such as restricting access, replacing the technology or introducing new security measures.

One important aspect is the importance of cooperation at international level, including EU and NATO institutions. The DeepSeek warning is not an isolated problem, but a global issue that may affect many other countries. DeepSeek is often compared to popular technologies such as Chat GPT, but its Chinese origin raises specific concerns from a cyber security perspective.

Michaela Holíková highlighted the need to regularly review and update contractual relationships with vendors to minimize the risks associated with artificial intelligence and the processing of sensitive data. She recommended the inclusion of new contractual clauses to strengthen control and regular audits of the supply chain. These measures will help protect organisations from potential threats and ensure their ability to respond to incidents.

The podcast concluded with a clear call for investment in training and education for employees to better understand the risks associated with cyber security. She also stressed that while the warning is binding on the Czech Republic in particular, it is essential to monitor global trends and be prepared for potential risks.

This situation is a clear example of how prevention and proactive measures play a crucial role in protecting cybersecurity. Thanks to our cybersecurity experts, we can offer organisations valuable advice to effectively defend against modern cyber threats. Don’t hesitate to contact us.
