Jan Frey specializes in transactional advisory, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law. He also specializes in commercial contracts.

Jan has many years of experience in providing legal services to Czech private and public sector clients as well as foreign investors. In the area of acquisitions and divestitures, he has been involved in several transactions over the years, both on the sellers’ and buyers’ side, particularly in the energy, pharmaceutical, automotive, engineering and food industries.

Prior to joining ROWAN LEGAL, Jan headed the transactional legal department of the international advisory group KPMG and before that he was a partner at HAVEL & PARTNERS in mergers and acquisitions. In 2015, he completed an internship at the renowned British law firm Slaughter & May in London.

With seven completed transactions with a total value of EUR 1.85 billion in 2019, Jan Frey was ranked by the international rating agency Mergermarket as one of the Top 5 Czech lawyers for 2019 both by number and volume of completed transactions.

In 2022, Jan was included by the prestigious Forbes magazine among the top 10 Czech lawyers for M&A.

In addition to lecturing at Masaryk University in Brno and the University of Economics, Jan Frey has written numerous publications on various M&A topics.

Advising the German energy group E.ON on the sale of innogy Česká republika, a.s., one of the largest gas and electricity distributors in the Czech Republic, to the Hungarian energy group MVM.

Advising E.ON, a major German energy group, on the sale of innogy Gas Storage, s.r.o., the owner of eight gas storage facilities, to another German energy group, RWE, in connection with the exchange of extensive assets in the German and Central European markets.

Advising Central Europe Industry Partners on the acquisition of AMiT.

Advising the Czech Press Agency (CTK) on the acquisition of Profimedia CZ.

Advising Albatros Media Group on the acquisition of the book division of Mladá Fronta publishing house out of insolvency.

Advising a German energy group on the sale of innogy Grid Holding, a gas distribution network operator in the Czech Republic, to another German energy group.

Advising the owner of IZOS on the sale of 100% of its shares to the HELUZ group.

Advising the owner of DCD Ideal on the sale of 100% of its shares to the Austrian Austrotherm group.
