Miloš Olík

Miloš Olík is the head of the Dispute Resolution Department at ROWAN LEGAL.

His practice focuses on arbitration, including international commercial arbitrations, investment disputes and various forms of alternative dispute resolution (mediation, negotiation).

Miloš Olík has many years of experience in arbitration proceedings under the rules of various institutions,

such as ICC, LCIA, VIAC, SCC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, and the Czech Arbitration Court. He has led legal teams representing states in investment disputes, as well as multinational companies in international commercial arbitrations.

 

Miloš has participated as an arbitrator in over 220 arbitral proceedings,

including investor-state disputes, with two cases administered under the ICSID framework. He is included on the rosters of leading arbitral institutions worldwide, such as SIAC, CIETAC, LCIA, VIAC, HKIAC, and MIAC. He holds several professional roles, including Vice-Chair of ICC Czech Republic, Chair of the Arbitration Tribunal of the Czech Football Association, and member of the Presidium of the National Court of Arbitration for Sport. He is also affiliated with numerous other professional organizations.

Miloš is listed in the Arbitration Ranking jointly organized by Who’s Who Legal and GAR

(Global Arbitration Review). He has been ranked by the prestigious international ranking Chambers Global in Band 2 for dispute resolution and arbitration in the Czech Republic.

 

Miloš is also the author or co-author of numerous professional publications,

such as the Commentary to the New York Convention, the Commentary to the Arbitration Act, and the prestigious chapter for the Czech Republic in the ICCA Handbook on Commercial Arbitration.

Represented a leading car manufacturer in a dispute with a former supplier, worth tens of millions of CZK.

Represented clients in arbitration proceedings for damages under bilateral agreements on the promotion and mutual protection of investments and under the Energy Charter Agreement in the field of promotion of renewable energy production.

Czech mobile operator

Represented a major Czech mobile operator in two disputes concerning claims for compensation against two former sales representatives.

Ministry of Regional Development

Represented the Ministry of Regional Development in a dispute with Generali Pojišt’ovna regarding alleged defamation. The plaintiff claimed damages of CZK 18 million from the Ministry.

City of Prague

Represented the City of Prague, in a number of disputes arising out of the Opencard project.

Large construction company

In arbitration proceedings, represented a large construction company in a dispute arising out of the construction of a motorway corridor worth more than CZK 4.5 billion.

International investment arbitration

Represented the State in the international investment arbitration EUREKO (ACHMEA) B.V. v. THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC under UNCITRAL rules in a case involving an alleged violation of the investor’s rights arising from a legislative change in health insurance, involving almost EUR 65 million.

A member of the team representing the State in the international investment arbitration HICEE B.V. v. THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC under the UNCITRAL rules in the alleged violation of the investor’s rights arising from a legislative change in health insurance worth EUR 1 billion.

Credit union

Represented a client WPB Capital, a credit union, in several court proceedings, including an administrative action against the regulator's regulator’s decision to revoke its license to operate as a credit union and a EUR 60 million damages claim for maladministration. The procedural defense also included several constitutional complaints.

Czech transport company

Represented the plaintiff, AŽD Praha s.r.o., in 6 six lawsuits with similar factual bases. The defendant's defendant’s claim was based on liability for unremedied defects together with a claimand included a demand for compensation for consequential damages amounting to more than exceeding CZK 5 million.

The Slovak Republic

He represented the Slovak Republic against A. J. Oostergetel and T. Laurentius in arbitration proceedings under the UNCITRAL rules in the industrial sector, with a dispute value of EUR 300 million.

Leading mobile operator

Represented a leading mobile operator against another operator in international arbitration under the ICC rules

International arbitration

Represented a Russian manufacturer in an international arbitration against a bank in an export financing dispute with a value exceeding EUR 26 million.

Czech bank

Represented a Czech bank in proceedings before the Arbitration Court attached to the Czech Chamber of Commerce and the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic against a major Czech and Slovak investment group in a case concerning the rejection of a bank guarantee.

Czech insurance company

Represented a Czech insurance company in arbitration proceedings before the Arbitration Court attached to the Czech Chamber of Commerce and the Agricultural Chamber of the Czech Republic against a bank in a dispute arising from an insurance contract worth CZK 100 million.
